Sutherland Shire Council, supported by Sutherland PCYC and Rideability, are once again hosting the annual Bike to the Beach ride on Sunday 22 September, 2019.

The free 5km cycling event starts at Taren Point Shorebird Reserve and will allow cyclists to explore off-road paths from Woolooware Bay along the foreshore past the Solander playing fields to Wanda Beach.

The course is suitable for experienced riders as well as beginners and is a great opportunity to travel along the award winning Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway.

“This event is a great chance for the entire family to get active and enjoy our stunning Sutherland Shire coastline,” said Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce.

“Sutherland Shire has some beautiful cycleways and the Bike to the Beach event is the perfect chance to enjoy the outdoors while keeping fit.”

The free family fun ride is held each September as part of NSW Bike Week and the supervised course is easily managed by all ages, with volunteers on hand to assist at crossing points and help young riders collect progress stamps along the way.

The cycle route opens from 10am and is manned until the last registered rider completes the course. All riders must bring their own bikes in roadworthy condition, inlcuding a working bell and must also wear helmets during the ride in accordance with current NSW cycling laws. Free bike safety checks will be available at the start of the course, courtesy of Endeavour Cycles.

The finish line at Don Lucas Reserve will host a number of free activities, including face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, giant slide, giveaways and games! There will also be free hot dogs and smoothies for the riders.
